How to use Image Compressor

Re-encode an image at an adjustable quality setting and compare the downloaded size with the original.

  1. Choose a supported image using the file picker.
  2. Adjust the quality setting and run compression.
  3. Compare file sizes and inspect the result before discarding your source.

Worked example

For a website photograph, first resize to its intended display dimensions, then reduce quality gradually until the size and appearance are acceptable.

Limits and things to check

Compression is lossy where the output encoder uses a quality setting. Lower quality does not guarantee a smaller result than an already optimized source. Canvas export may change metadata and image appearance.

Can I guarantee a file below a specific KB limit?

No. The result depends on dimensions, image detail, and encoding. Reduce dimensions as well as quality when a fixed upload limit is important.
