How to use Percentage Calculator
Find a percentage of an amount or compare a starting value with a new value using percentage change.
- Choose percentage of a value or percentage change.
- Enter the percentage and value, or the original and new amounts.
- Calculate and check whether the result represents an amount or a percentage.
Worked example
15% of 200 is 30. A change from 200 to 250 is a 25% increase; from 250 to 200 it is a 20% decrease.
Limits and things to check
Percentage change from zero is undefined and rejected. For negative starting values, this tool uses the absolute starting value as the denominator; interpret those results in context.
What is the difference between a percentage and a percentage point?
Moving from 10% to 15% is an increase of 5 percentage points, or a relative increase of 50%. The percentage-change mode calculates the relative change.
